I think everyone is pretty much the same person online as they are in real life. The main difference is that many people feel less inhibited on the net. A shy person is probably less shy on the net. Also guys post things to women that they would never say to a woman's face.

i agree but i'd like to add that all ppl have the right to be a lil or sometimes a lot different than in real world as long as they are not fake!!
but i don't agree that Escapism is a way of perceiving unpleasant aspects of daily reality
i think is more about escape from yourself !!

(a little different isnt a "little" fake?
and a "little" fake isnt fake at all?)

We all have the right to do anything what we like, since we do not have obligations to be "urself" online or not.
The only obligations are the legal ones, and even those are in constant fluctuation.

Therefore, nobody can ask for truthness on the web, since there r no way to find out if the person online is really behaving as the person typing.
And as much we ocnsider ourselves online, our typing does not demonstrate entirely our personality and mood.
Words are empty and incomplete.

So, if words cannot entirely show us... are we ourselves on the internet anyway?

(even we say and write how we think and are?)

Curious debate indeed.

u know a lil different doesn't mean fake!! Fake means not real.
if u are a better person or more naughty on the net than in reality doesn't consider u as a ''fake''

ur fake when :
a) use an avatar of another person and claim is urs ( u've found it on photobucket)
b)telling lies about urself like '' i won 3 competitions of ice-skating and i'm soooooo rich''

then yup ur a fake
and stay 2 the topic
i won't change my mind!

a "little" fake is fake.
being fake isnt lying about some things and showing others?
theres my point.

And if u go to the web and be"nicer" and "naughtier", its fake the same.
its a good thing being better, but still fake.
made me understood?

and yes i am in topic.
as u could read in the rest of my previous post.

and yes i am proud "fake".
my name is not "richy".

The rest is authentic.

To richy :
Note : it doesn't matter if that's ur name or not [it's ok 2 use a nickname]

yup fake is lying about sth
However,u cannot lie about ur personality
But showing a better self or a certain attitude on the net it's sth all ppl do [including me]

Example: There is a person that u were talking on the net but u realized he/she is extremely annoying
u r not going 2 say ''bad things'' to that person aren't u?
u r not going 2 say 2 him/her he/she is annoying and 2 leave u alone right?!?

if u do that ur rude if not ur not authentic
sooo then ur digital self is considered to be fake?!?

One cannot deny that anything happening behind the relative shield of a computer screen can be considered to be diluted reality. Easy to retreat. Easy to deny. Easy period. And when you say a Digital Self, that can be taken in so many different places and contexts. Things like any random forum, some online RPG or sim. Anonymity is after all a warm blanket to wrap yourself in.
On the down side, you're probably going to need that warm blanket. While being anonymous, you'll be quite cold, since it'll alienate you. Always hiding who you are, counting who you told what detail to, trying not to contradict yourself to avoid bringing the whole house of cards tumbling down around you.
Though quite the extreme case, I prefer to think an online persona is an amalgam of the two extremes: your core personality, seasoned with a few new things you wouldn't think of doing were you face to face with your public. You define your online self, not the other way around.

This can be shared in a ratio of 50:40:10. 50% of the people are who they are in person. 40% are hiding behind the computer and being what they are not. The 10% are the category of those who do not know who they are and they just find any opening to become what would suit them at the particular moment

My digital self is someone totally different from my reality , if you talking about fake then I'm the one.
First , I'm not as happy and lovely as it looks.
Second , I don't even consider myself a human.
Third , my country is not Netherlands.
But all my interests were true I believe , even my hometown.
See how fake I am ?

Ideally, I'm about the same online and off. Condescending, blunt, annoying, and MUST be right on certain things. I just can't seem to run people off, though. They come back for more.
